"While reserving judgments is a matter of infinite hope, I've come to admit that my tolerance of human behavior has its limits. Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this story, represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn. And yet there was something gorgeous about him. Some hightened sensitivity to the promises of life, a romantic readiness such as I've never found in any other person and which it is not likely I'll ever find again."
Gatsby is the definition of glamor, as seen in the shining excesses and luxury of the roaring 1920's. lavish parties, flapper dresses, getting drunk off expensive champagne while dancing to the blare of a live band. echoing marble mansions, huge estates outfitted in billowing white tents and twinkling strings of lights, reflected in the jewels dripping off society women.
and then there is the painfully wistful romance between gatsby and daisy.. all longing looks and restrained embraces and passionate kisses.
if only men still dressed like men, in tailored tuxedos with slicked back hair and a healthy dose of charming gentry.. le sigh!

i've come to the conclusion that robert redford circa the 1970's may be one of the most attractive men to have ever appeared on the silver screen... even his voice is perfectly smooth..
